Mystic aka Jonathan Lassen is no stranger to the South Island bass scene despite his young age, now 6 years deep and showing no signs of slowing down. Starting out at house, river and bus parties, jamming with a variety of artists and also live bands such as TAOS and The Lazy Eyes, he has brought his flowing blonde dreads and unique MC style to a variety of events. With a love of hip-hop he has a gift for lyrical flow and is also comfortable playing the role of host and hype man where necessary. Mystic also wears the hat of DJ and producer, first hopping on the decks at the age of 20: “After mcing for a bunch of DJs and deciding it doesn’t look that difficult so thought I’d give it a go!” With a rugged style ranging from neuro to minimal, he’s also frequently sporting dubs from a range of NZ underground artists. Production followed over the last few years, culminating in 2020 with his debut release “Johnny and the Biscuit” in collaboration with PHDM label head Lily Unsub, and watch for upcoming tunes with Gawn Deep, his Original’s, and other collaborations yet to be announced! Some of the many events he has performed at include Wobbleland 2018, River Fest 2018, Cymatics Bass Gathering 2019, Marlborough Sound Fest 2020, Dystopia 2020, and supporting Habit and Unsub at Industry in Nelson. You can catch him in action as a regular livestreamer via his socials media and you may have seen him recently at festivals around the South Island over the summer.
