The Red Lounge Sessions are back!
Headliner Paige Julia is coming from Christchurch for one night only, with support acts Matt Rapid (Coro) , HUIA (Auck) and local talent Mystic Roots along with Live visuals from The Wanderer. Get ready for a Drum & Bass takeover!
Paige Julia is a creature that lives on an island in the South Pacific Ocean that spends her time tinkering with sound machines. She has released music with Samsara Beats (US), MalLabel Music (US), Forest Biz (UK), Uncomfortable Beats (AU) and Totally Roasted (NZ). Her music is inspired by the many shades of underground bass culture, navigating the grey area between breakbeat, dubstep, techno, DnB and hip hop. Her debut album, “Morphling” out in March 2021 is a reflection of all these sounds.
Matt Rapid is a roaming sound engineer and music record-ist. His DJ sets merge found sounds and heavy-weight flex into a deep, dark and ruckus blend. Featuring super low bass, peppered with tight staccato rhythms, tentacles of organic soundscapes – it’s bass music at its most wild and raw form. A lover of synthesisers, found sounds, sliced and diced rhythms, his DJ sets cross bass-centric electronic genres including DnB, future bass, glitch and all with a hearty dose of gravel.
HUIA – With electronic beats, organic percussion, live guitars and deep harmonies, Huia has an easy warm sound with conscious lyrics in both english and te reo Māori. Producing both solo and collaboratively, her music flows from ambient liquid DnB with Baitercell, through to reggaeton bangers. You may have heard Huia’s warm tones at Splore, Lovelake festival, Newtown Festival, Coromandel Sonic Summer festival, R’n’V, Soundsplash, Grey Lynn festival, The Rogue Stage, Waiheke Jazz festival, The Red Lounge Sessions, Sundaise and The Big Day Out (RIP) and private events at the Auckland Museum to name a few. She is also ‘Dj Wharatā’ for Rei touring nationwide in 2021. She has also performed as a backing vocalist for many top acts including Rei, Kevin Mark Trail, Pieter T, Chong-Nee, JGeeks and Kids of 88 and there is an album in production for a late 2021 release at Kog Studio.
Mystic roots – Mystic roots layers world bassy beats to take you on an ecstatic movement journey. She is largely inspired by the high vibration dance floors of the conscious festival and the US west coast music scenes and aims to create a portal for her audience to unleash. This is a journey for those who like to dance and those who don’t know they like to dance.
